Zambian copper production in I half-year rose by 4% year on year, said the central bank of Zambia. It was 414.985 tonnes compared to 399.063 tonnes in the corresponding period last year. "Most of the mines were restored after disruption of work in the II quarter that helped the volume of production" - said in an interview with Dow Jones Newswires sales representative. (Most of the quarries of the country has reduced activity in the I quarter of the year after heavy rainfall in the two provinces.) Cobalt production increased during the period by 8.5%, to 4353 m.
Bank of Zambia expects copper output in the country in 2011 at 900 thousand tons against 820 thousand tons in 2010.
